The Ranger Station is within Edel Land National Park (proposed) and is accessible by high clearance 4WD only. Visitors must register at the Ranger Station on arrival and clearly display the visiting permit in the car. We had a yearly West Australian National Park pass but still called in to register and let the Ranger know we were visiting for the day. The Ranger Station has beautiful views over the South Passage of the Shark Bay Marine Park.
Before you enter the National Park you will need to let your tyre pressure down to 20 psi and there are indicators on the map to show you where this should be done. The road becomes sandy and very corrugated which is a single width track - be on the lookout for oncoming traffic as there are very few spots to pull off the road. The road to the Ranger Station takes you over Bellefin Prong which is a series of huge sand hills - some of the summits are quite blind.
After the Ranger Station there is Shelter Bay which is a designated camping area with a couple of Eco Toilets. These toilets are clean and well maintained. The camping spots are close to the beach and well protected from the wind - you can launch a boat here. Permits form camping on Edel Land must be booked in advance - ring or email the ranger.
