A small town in the Sapphire Gemfields region of Queensland about 62 kilometres west of Emerald. The Rubyvale Gem Gallery has one of the most amazing collection of different coloured Sapphires I have seen. They not only mine themselves but polish the gems and create beautiful jewellery. This location also has a cafe and holiday apartment for visitors.
While in Rubyvale we also visited the New Royal Hotel on the top of the hill - cool verandah, beer garden, meals plus accommodation. There are two caravan parks in town with a range of cabins as well as caravan and camping sites.
Of course there are various other gem shops, grocery shop and even a walk in mine. Visitors come from all over the place to try their hand at fossicking for that special gemstone. One sign that caught my eye was "you are entering a different time zone, life is slower, RELAX". An interesting part of the country.
